NEOWAVE'S CARRIER-NEUTRAL DATA CENTRE PARK
Our Data Centre Park in Samrand replicates Hetzner Online’s award-winning, energy efficient German facilities and is currently our default hosting location. The facility is not in a direct flight path or low lying area and is centrally located between Johannesburg and Pretoria with a major power substation close by. A geotechnical audit has been done to ensure ground stability. Hetzner houses servers in data centres across three locations: Samrand (Gauteng), Cape Town and Germany. Colocation hosting is only offered in our Samrand facility.
Our fully redundant, physically separated A+B feeds provide power to the facility. This means that a single utility power feed can be disconnected without affecting your service. Equipment with a single power supply also benefits from this redundancy through our sophisticated static transfer switch design. The average power per square meter is 3.5 kW / m2.
We also have UPS backup and a standby generator on each feed, providing further resilience.
The Hetzner network is multi-homed with multiple uplinks per data centre via our upstream providers, EOH Carrier Services and Metrofibre Networx. Should a network failure occur, traffic is automatically rerouted via alternate uplinks, significantly increasing our network resilience.
Connectivity is provided through diverse, redundant fibre routes connecting the facility to a 10Gbps fibre ring.
We’ve also partnered with INX-ZA to extend the reach of the Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX).
Temperature and humidity conditions are within the generally acceptable boundaries set by the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). All our air conditioning units have N+2 redundancy. When ambient temperature allows for it, we make use of direct free cooling, significantly reducing our power consumption and carbon footprint.
In 2015 our Samrand data centre achieved an impressive Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) rating of 1.17.
Juniper offers a high-performance network infrastructure with a highly responsive environment for accelerating the deployment of services.
Our virtual chassis technology increases the redundancy and resilience of our network, allowing for high levels of automation in the provisioning process.
Our security features include a 24/7 security presence with CCTV camera surveillance. The facility also has a high voltage electric fence, providing perimeter security.
Biometric access is installed on all access points with our Colocation customers enjoying 24/7 unattended access to the facility.
The facility has fire detection through Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA).
